Are you one of the thousands of people who suffer from dental anxiety? It’s important for you to know that you’re not alone. The dental team at MacArthur Dental Arts can help.
Oral conscious sedation involves giving you a pill shortly before your procedure. This form of sedation is completely safe, and you’ll be awake but relaxed. You should experience little, if any, discomfort during the procedure because we will also thoroughly numb your mouth with local anesthesia. After your procedure, you will still be a bit groggy however, so you will need to arrange a ride home.
IV conscious sedation means that the sedative medication is administered directly into the bloodstream using a needle inserted into a vein. This type of sedation is usually recommended for oral surgery procedures, to help the patient relax during long and stressful treatments such as wisdom tooth extractions, dental implant placement, gum surgery and other invasive treatments.
We’ll review your medical history prior to administering any sedation to make sure you’re a good candidate. But if you fit into any of the following categories, oral sedation may be a good option for you.
